New Zealand Police Cricket Team
Why we should receive the grant:
My name is Sgt Stephen Cross of The New Zealand Police. I am a player and selector for the New Zealand Police team, competing in the Australia New Zealand Police Cricket Carnival (ANZPCC) being held in Sydney, Australia in from 2-7 December 2018.
This tournament is held every two years involving six Australian State Police cricket teams and a New Zealand Police team. The New Zealand Police team are previous tournament champions on the Gold Coast in 2012 and Auckland 2015. We came a close second in Adelaide 2016 just missing out on a 3-peat by bonus points to the hosts South Australia. In 2018 teams from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and the Australian Federal Police will travel to Sydney, Australia to try and win the much coveted tournament trophy.
The New Zealand Police have once again put together an extremely competitive team to retain the championship. Serving Police Officers have been selected from all over New Zealand, including Christchurch, Wellington and the Upper North Island. Our team consists of players that have played first class cricket in New Zealand, and currently all are playing senior level cricket within their districts.
As with all tournaments and teams, there is a cost associated with attending and competing. While all players are expected to fund the majority of the trip, and we engage in fundraising to assist with these costs. Unfortunately we are very limited in who we can approach for funding and any funding that can assist with travel, accommodation, tournament fees and playing gear would be greatly appreciated.
