Why we should receive the grant:
I love my cricket. I am a year 8/9 player, and will be playing for my high school this summer as well as my current cricket club, which is Springston - a 15 minute drive away. I want to become a better cricketer, maybe one day a Black Cap if I work hard enough at it! But I am being hampered by the lack of facilities at my home and at my local domain, which now has a junior cricket club, but no nets, just a cricket pitch. They currently field 2 junior teams.
I live rural, and my local domain - Dunsandel does not have cricket nets. The closest one is a 12 minute drive away, which isn't far, but my Mum has to drive me there to use it. Not ideal as whenever I ask her to take me there she is always too busy.
I have resorted to making the best of my back yard, you can see me in the picture of the wicket I have mowed into our back lawn. Its not very good, as the wicket has way too much bounce, and it's not level so bowling a good ball is very difficult.
I would like a grant to give me enough money to have some permanent cricket nets installed at my local grounds in Dunsandel, to aid the junior Cricket Club develop and maybe it will become a full Cricket club in a few years. I may even be able to play senior cricket in my home town then.
I would also like to have some one to one batting coaching with my favourite cricketer - Kane Williamson, as that is where I can make the biggest improvement in my game. He is an awesome batsmen and I would like to become an good as him one day. So I think $10,000.00 would be enough for the application to council and Sports ground committee, earthworks and construction/installation. If not, I would fundraise to make up the difference, as cricket is well supported in our community, and I am certain that the community would also back this idea of mine.
Thank you for considering my application.
